‘Algonquin Get Their Way’

Polling had shown that “a ‘Canada House’ to showcase the best of the provinces and territories was the favoured choice for the building’s usebut instead, this taxpayer asset is being turned over to the exclusive use of aboriginal lobbying agencies:

“The grand chief of the Algonquin Anishinabeg ‘Nation’ {It’s actually a ‘Tribal Council’ — a lobbying group} has ended her hunger and hydration strike after reaching a deal with the federal government over an ‘indigenous’ {they mean ‘aboriginal’} project on the site of the former U.S. embassy in Ottawa…

“Verna Polson began her strike at midnight Sunday to press her demands for the Algonquin Anishinabeg ‘Nation’ to be included as a full, fourth partner in the building, which three national ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} organizations — the Metis National Council, the Inuit Tapirit Kanatami and Assembly of ‘First Nations’ {Indian Tribes} — plan to use as an ’embassy’ {Why would Canadian citizens have an ’embassy’ in Canada’s capital?} and cultural centre. The building at 100 Wellington Street stands on {what they claim was formerly} Algonquin Anishinabeg ‘Nation’ land.

“…Under the deal, the Algonquin Anishinabeg ‘Nation’ will get a dedicated space, separate from the former embassy, to hold meetings and showcase their culture…

“Personally, I feel great about the deal”,
said Lisa Robinson. Robinson is chief of Wolf Lake ‘First Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 237 people}, which is part of the Algonquin ‘Nation’ Secretariat.
“It’s a great opportunity for the Algonquin ‘Nation’ and I think it’s a good way for us to move forward with this, working with Canada.”

“Under Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, the building was slated to become a portrait gallery. That plan was shelved when Stephen Harper came to power…”

The Algonquin seem to think that Canada’s capital belongs to them:

“If you’re going to ‘reconcile’, if Canada is going to ‘reconcile’ with ‘indigenous’ {they mean ‘aboriginal’} peoples across the country, you better start ‘reconciling’ with THE OWNERS OF THE LAND {!?!?!}… The whole intent is this is going to be acting much like an embassy: High governmental-level functions, government-to-government meetings, nation-to-nation meetings {!?!?!} … We’re the Algonquin ‘Nation’ that hosts this building {?}, hosts this project and we also deserve our rightful place so that we can meet with government officials.”

From last month:
“Members of the Algonquin Anishinabeg ‘Nation’ have erected a wigwam in front of the former U.S. embassy opposite Parliament Hill in Ottawa in an effort to draw attention to a ‘lack of consultation’ on the future of the 100 Wellington St. Building.

“Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in June 2017 that the former embassy will become a national space dedicated to Inuit, Métis and ‘First Nations’ {Indian} communities. But the ‘First Nation’ {Indian community} says it was not ‘consulted’ on key aspects of the new space.

“The heritage building…is on {claimed, unproven, former} Algonquin Anishinabeg territory… Grand Chief of Algonquin Anishinabeg Verna Polson said she plans to live in the wigwam until she becomes a ‘partner’ at 100 Wellington St.

“We’re fighting for our ‘rightful’ {privileged} place”,
Polson said.
“If we can’t come to an agreement or solution for something as small as this, how is Canada going to address bigger Algonquin issues?”

“National Chief of the Assembly of ‘First Nations’ {aboriginal tribes} Perry Bellegarde issued a statement Thursday in support of the Algonquin…

“If you’re going to ‘reconcile’, if Canada is going to ‘reconcile’ with ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples across the country, you better start ‘reconciling’ with THE OWNERS OF THE LAND”,

said Frankie Cote, a Band council member from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, Que., and a ‘negotiator’ for ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples space.

“The whole intent is this is going to be acting much like an embassy: High governmental-level functions, government-to-government meetings, nation-to-nation meetings … We’re the Algonquin ‘Nation’ that hosts this building, hosts this project and we also deserve our rightful place so that we can meet with government officials. As it stands right now, we don’t have any place in this city that we can meet.”

A survey conducted for the government by ‘Ekos Research Associates’ suggested that a “Canada House” to showcase the best of the provinces and territories was the favoured choice for the building’s use. A gallery was the second choice, with an ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} cultural facility coming in third.

“Polson and Cote are inviting Trudeau and ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} leaders to visit the wigwam, which is the same type of lodge used by their ancestors when they travelled the Ottawa River.

“It’s important that we become equal partners in every aspect of this building”,
Polson said…”

  1. As long as the Aboriginals keep demanding and getting their own way, there will be no unification of Canada nor will there be reconciliation. This is so pathetically sickening!!
