Government should never reward illegal protest. It invites more of the same and encourages disrespect for the law. As well, the federal government needs to remind aboriginal leadership that the waters off B.C.’s coast are Canada’s territorial waters…
“Talks with senior B.C. government officials were prompted by {illegal} fish-farm occupations last fall.”
“A B.C. provincial advisory council is recommending that fish farm companies be required to have agreements in place with local ‘First Nations’ {‘aboriginal communities’} before the province approves any new or replacement tenures…
“Protesters have {illegally} occupied multiple fish farms in the Broughton Archipelago over the past year {See below}, claiming they are operating in ‘First Nations’ ‘traditional territories’ without their consent.
{These, of course, are Canadian territorial waters…}
“The B.C. Salmon Fish Farmers Association said it agrees with most of the recommendations but finds some “unworkable in practice” {!}, particularly when it comes to acquiring ‘First Nation’ agreement at existing business sites.
“The association cannot support that recommendation as written but would welcome the opportunity to work with other stakeholders and government to clarify it“,
it said in a news release…”

“Bob Chamberlin, vice-president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs, said the B.C. government committed earlier this year to giving ‘First Nations’ a say on whether to renew tenures for 18 fish farms that expire in June, 2018…
“Chamberlin said the ‘First Nations’ with ‘traditional territories’ in the Broughton Archipelago are close to attaining a formal say in approving fish-farm tenures in the area.
“There are five ‘First Nations’ Bands representing six ‘First Nations’ that have an agreement with the provincial government for a consent-based, shared decision-making model based on the {unConstitutional} ‘UN declaration of the Human {sic} Rights of ‘Indigenous’ People’,”
Chamberlin said.
“A B.C. government statement issued Jan. 30 confirmed the commitment to “a consent-based, government-to-government process {Veto?}“, with the ‘First Nations’ on the issue of fish farm tenures and protecting wild salmon.

“Talks with senior B.C. government officials were prompted by fish-farm occupations last fall…
“Aquaculture company ‘Marine Harvest’ has said it has formal agreements in place with 15 of the 24 ‘nations’ in the territories where it has aquaculture operations.
“Chamberlin said that while some coastal ‘First Nations’ support the aquaculture industry’s presence on the coast, they are far from the majority. Many more, he said, rely on Fraser River salmon stocks, which risk disease and sea lice exposure from farmed salmon in the Discovery Channel area near Campbell River on Vancouver Island and the Broughton Archipelago located between northern Vancouver Island and B.C.’s mainland.
“There are a number of ‘First Nations’ that have embraced the industry and certainly that’s within their authority to make such a decision“,
Chamberlin said.
“But if the answer ‘yes’ is to be respected then the answer ‘no’ must be respected as well.”
{Which brings us back to the absurdity of government trying to deal with all of these small aboriginal communities that are pretending to be sovereign ‘nations’. It’s not fair to business and it’s most certainly not fair to the rest of the Canadian people.}

“Between 1956 and 1977, Canada moved from claiming the traditional 3-mile territorial seas to claim a 12-mile territorial sea and exclusive jurisdiction over fisheries within 200 miles of its coast, and over mineral resources of its continental shelf. Canada accepted the concept of a 200-mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) that emerged from UNCLOS negotiations.”

‘More Trouble On The Coast’ (Fish Farms) {January 26, 2018}:
“Government needs to make it easier for Canadian businesses to get enforceable injunctions preventing illegal harassment from protesters at a workplace, and police need to be instructed to crack down – not back down – during these incidents. Businesses have a right to conduct their legal, licensed affairs without interference. This kind of nonsense is happening far too often and is yet another result of Race Based Law.”
